Privacy Policy

1. Overview & Core Philosophy

At Paisa Tracker, privacy is a foundational principle. Paisa Tracker is an offline-first personal finance & expense manager: your financial records live on your device by default. We do not operate any server that stores your transactions, balances, or notes. The only time your financial data leaves your device is when you choose to back it up to your own Google Drive, and it is encrypted on your device before it is uploaded.

2. Information Collection & Storage

Zero Remote Data Collection: We operate zero backend databases or telemetry servers for tracking users. Everything you type into Paisa Tracker (income, expenses, category labels, notes, dates) remains strictly on your mobile device.

  • Local SQLite Database: All app records are stored locally in a database sandbox on your phone.
  • No Account Required: You do not need to register or log in to use the app. A Google sign-in is only requested if you choose to enable Cloud Backup (see Section 4).

3. Diagnostics & Advertising

To keep the app stable and free for everyone, Paisa Tracker uses a limited set of Google services. These do not receive your transactions, amounts, categories, notes, or backups.

  • Firebase Crashlytics: Collects anonymized crash reports so we can fix bugs. Crash logs contain technical diagnostics, not your financial data.
  • Firebase Analytics: Collects aggregate, anonymized usage events (such as which screens are opened) to help us improve the app.
  • Google AdMob (free tier only): Shows ads to users on the free tier. Ads may use an advertising identifier as described in Google's policies. Purchasing Pro removes all ads. You are asked for consent where required (for example, under GDPR).

4. Cloud Backup with Google Drive

Cloud Backup is an optional feature. When you turn it on, Paisa Tracker backs up your data to your own Google Drive — we never store it on our servers.

  • Google Sign-In: Used only to authorize access to your Drive. We request the narrowest possible scope, drive.appdata, which lets the app read and write only inside a hidden folder that belongs to Paisa Tracker. The app cannot see, read, or modify any of your other files in Google Drive.
  • Encrypted before upload: Your backup is encrypted on your device (AES-GCM) before it is sent to Drive. The encryption key is generated on your device and stored in your own Drive app folder so your other devices can restore; we never receive or store your data or your key.
  • Your data, your control: The backup lives in your Google account. You can delete it at any time, and if you lose access to that Google account, the backup cannot be recovered by us because we do not hold it.
  • Limited use: Paisa Tracker's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Drive data is used only to provide the backup/restore feature and is never transferred to others, used for advertising, or read by humans.

5. App Permissions

Paisa Tracker requests only minimal system permissions necessary for its features:

  • Local Network (Transfer to New Phone): Used only when you move data directly between your phones over your local Wi-Fi. Nothing is uploaded to any server during a transfer.
  • Biometric Lock (Optional): Uses your device's native fingerprint or face recognition to secure app access. Biometric data never leaves your device hardware.
  • Google Drive (Optional): Requested only if you enable Cloud Backup, and limited to the app's own hidden Drive folder as described in Section 4.

6. Data Ownership

You retain full ownership and control over your financial records. Exports (CSV/JSON) are saved wherever you choose to share them, and Cloud Backups live in your own Google Drive. You are responsible for safeguarding files and backups you create.

7. Policy Updates

Should we ever update this Privacy Policy, the revised version will be published here with an updated effective date. Because Paisa Tracker is offline-first, our core commitment to keeping your data on your device will remain unchanged.
